Originally from Detroit, David received a bachelor’s degree in business administration from the University of Michigan in 1974. He earned his certified public accounting certificate in Michigan shortly thereafter while working four years (including working on the “Nederlander” account) for a national public accounting firm that the “Nederlander” theatres and family were major clients of. David moved and transferred to the accounting firm’s Los Angeles office in 1977 just as James Nederlander was embarking on his dynamic California growth strategy. David joined Nederlander West Coast in 1978 as Controller and is now Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for its legitimate theatre, concert, and real estate activities.
A tireless volunteer both in the entertainment industry and the community at large, David has served on the Board of Directors of the I.A.T.S.E. Local 33 Stagehands Union Pension Health and Welfare Trust Funds for over 30 years. He has served as President and Treasurer of the Board of Directors of the Hollywood Business Improvement District (BID) as well as a Board member of the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce, its Executive Committee and as Chairman of its Hollywood Walk of Fame Committee. He also was a member of City National Bank’s Entertainment Advisory Board and has been a member of the Advisory Committee of Los Angeles Center for Education Research (LACER).
David has worked closely with Nederlander’s banks, partners, landlords/tenants and fellow Nederlander team members to grow the Company’s west coast presence. He is most proud of his various efforts to help improve Hollywood over the last 30 years; particularly his involvement in the $10,000,000 Pantages Theatre “Lion King” Renovation Project in 2000. He was honored by LACER in 2004 with its Jackie Goldberg Business Community Award and in September 2011 was the recipient of a Hollywood Community Leadership Award by the Hollywood Police Activities League (PAL).
David has been married for almost 32 years to Laura Valan, Executive Vice President of Finance & Administration for Warner Brothers Television Group. They have a son and daughter who both work in the entertainment industry.
