Ex-officio LACC Foundation Board member and president of the Emeriti Association, Leanna Watts retired from Los Angeles City College in 2009 after a 35-year career at the College. Her tenure at LACC began in July 1974, when she was hired to set up and supervise the first Campus Child Development Center at LACC. While directing the Center, Leanna also taught child development courses as an adjunct instructor from 1974 to 1989.
In 1997, Ms. Watts assumed the newly created position of Dean of Student Services, supervising the Associated Students Organization (ASO), student activities, financial aid, and the child center, under the supervision of Myra Siegel, Vice President of Student Services. Over the next ten years, Ms. Watts’ areas of responsibility expanded to include supervision of the Student Health Center, Upward Bound, and TRIO/Student Support Services.
In fall 2007, Ms. Watts returned to the faculty and the Child Development Center (CDC) and helped to oversee the creation of a permanent facility on the LACC campus, a major goal of the CDC staff. After hard work from many individuals, the building opened in January 2009, serving 90 preschool-age children and 30 school-age children.
Ms. Watts retired in June 2009, and became active in the Emeriti Association. She assumed the presidency of the Association in 2011, upon Roberta Holt’s retirement. Ms. Watts is married and has two adult children.
