Donor Spotlight: Alumnus Leonard Roth Creates Nursing Scholarship

Los Angeles City College (LACC) Foundation is excited to announce a new scholarship for LACC nursing students — made possible through the generosity of LACC alumnus, Leonard Roth, and his wife, JoAnn. Len and JoAnn decided to create a Nursing Scholarship to honor this critical field of study as it is their belief that the nursing profession needs to attract more students. This endowed scholarship will ensure that every spring, a second-year nursing student will receive the financial support to complete their Registered Nursing (RN) degree and enter into the workforce.

Len credits his academic success to the skills that he acquired at LACC. His appreciation for LACC is the motivation behind creating this scholarship. Len attended LACC from 1953-1955, receiving his associate of arts degree. He then attended UCLA as a political science major, graduating in 1957. Afterward, Len worked for five years before returning to school at Michigan State University to earn his masters of business administration degree (MBA). Len has remained active in both the UCLA and Michigan State Alumni Associations and also has endowed a scholarship at UCLA.

Len was named Man of the Year by the Jewish Federation of Men’s Clubs and is a former member of the Board of Trustees of Temple Ramat Zion. Len and JoAnn are also large supporters of the Valley Performing Arts Center at California State University Northridge (CSUN).

Len Roth is a financial planner, specializing in investments and insurance, who has been serving the San Fernando Valley since 1975. JoAnn is now a retired insurance agent. This year they celebrated 36 years of marriage. “We are grateful for the good life we enjoy and believe that supporting the education of students in need is an important pursuit.” -Len Roth
