LACC Mathematics Club Wins National Championship

Los Angeles City College’s Mathematics Club has won this year’s National Championship in the annual American Mathematical Association of Two Year Colleges’ (AMATYC) mathematics competition. About 200 colleges across the country participated, including the majority here in Southern California.

The AMATYC is a two-part competition — one test in November and one in March — referred to as Round I and Round II. Each competitor’s scores are added for the annual competition. In each Round of the competition, the top five scores at each community college are added to calculate the team score for that community college. The Round I and Round II team scores of each community college are then added to get that college’s team score in the annual AMATYC competition.

Los Angeles City College has won five times in the last 12 years (2004, 2007, 2009, 2010, 2014), the most national championships of any college across the country!
