We are celebrating LGBTQIA+ History Month, by shining a light on Pau Brunet-Fuertes, a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, an outstanding Los Angeles City College (LACC) recent graduate, an Obama-Chesky Voyager Scholar, and current student at the University of Southern California, pursing their Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Cinema and Media Studies.

Pau was born in Barcelona, Spain and moved to Los Angeles in 2010. Their L.A. journey began on Melrose and fostered their desire to improve their English. They started on their academic path by taking non-credit ESL classes at LACC.

Soon enough Pau fell in love with LACC and decided to pursue a degree in Media Studies. Pau already had experience as a journalist writing about industry film analysis and box office numbers for trade publications and producing arthouse films from various countries. Media studies was a natural fit, and Pau decided to continue their education in a field they are deeply passionate about. Pau learned about the LACC Foundation (LACCF) during their first semester and their academic success earned them multiple scholarships!

Pau’s positive experience at LACC also involved being a part of LACC’s Associated Student Government as Executive of Activities and Outreach. They shared with us how they’d never forget the joy they felt working with Professor Clayne and Dean Juan Alvarez organizing events celebrating our LGBTQIA+ students on Coming Out day.

During their time at LACC, Pau discovered the importance of discipline, being goal oriented, and the art of effective organization.

When Pau is away from their study desk, they are growing their VHS collection, watching the latest film at a movie theater, attending drag shows, cooking, or overseeing Development projects related to public funding.

With your support, students like Pau are able to transfer to a four-year university and continue achieving their dreams!
