LA City College Celebrates Investiture Ceremony Honoring 18th President Dr. Amanuel Gebru

Los Angeles City College (LACC) proudly commemorated the investiture of Dr. Amanuel Gebru on March 14, 2024, as the institution’s 18th president. This was a momentous event attended by over 400 distinguished guests, educational partners, and community leaders. Attendees included City of Los Angeles (LA) Mayor Karen Bass, Poet Laureate of LA Lynne Thompson, Bishop Kenneth C. Ulmer and Culture Bearer Tina Calderon. Platform guests included the Chancellor of the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) Dr. Francisco Rodriguez and the LACCD Board of Trustees President Nichelle Henderson who joined in honoring Dr. Gebru’s transformative contributions to the educational community. We are proud to present him as the leader of LACC.

Dr. Gebru’s investiture ceremony was held at the LA City College’s Main Quad on March 14 and honored Dr. Gebru’s strong vision, energy, and leadership.

Culture bearer Tina Calderon began the ceremony with a prayer and land acknowledgement, reflecting the college’s respect for the land and its indigenous heritage.  

Ethiopian Dance Troupe

Heartfelt tributes and testimonials shared the impact of Dr. Gebru’s leadership journey. Live performances by the LACC Jazz Band, Choir and Ethiopian Dance Troupe added cultural richness and vibrancy.

In his remarks, Dr. Gebru reaffirmed his commitment to delivering educational opportunities, advancing racial equity, and empowering students to achieve their full potential. He expressed gratitude for the support of the LA City College community and reiterated his dedication to fostering an inclusive and supportive learning environment.  

As LA City College looks toward the future, the investiture ceremony symbolized hope, inspiration, and collective goals for excellence in education and social progress.
