Student Spotlight – Jonathan Miller

Meet LACCF President Scholar

Jonathan is an L.A. native and after graduating high school, he was determined to continue his education, but knew his financial situation would stop him from being able to attend a four-year university. Jonathan is driven and focused, he decided to come to City, complete course credits, with plans to transfer to U.C. Santa Barbara or UCLA in the Spring of 2024. Jonathan works hard and has consistently excelled in his education becoming an LACCF President’s Scholar.

Jonathan is passionate about math and after his first economics class, he was hooked! Everything from how a society functions with limited resources to monopolies and tradeoffs has fascinated Jonathan and inspired him to pursue a career as a financial planner.

Aside from his love of all things econ, Jonathan has enjoyed spending some of his time at City with Professor Evan Kendall. Professor Kendall has helped Jonathan sharpen his writing and critical thinking skills and because of their work together, Jonathan was given the opportunity to present a scholarly research project at LACC’s Ralph Bunche Annual Research Conference.

Jonathan stays busy during the week, working two jobs while pursuing his education. Currently, he interns at the Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) assisting with grant work and data analysis in their Accounting and Finance Department and works at LACC’s First Year Experience Program as an administrative assistant. Jonathan is well on his way to his goal of becoming a financial planner, getting great work experience in both data analysis at CHLA and in client services working alongside counselors that support students transitioning from high school or attending college for the first time.

Jonathan still makes time in his busy schedule for his hobbies, like being a part of his community’s choir, the South Los Angeles Group Hope Choir.

Jonathan believes his determination has benefited him during his time at LACC, and with the support of the foundation, he will reach his goals.

With your support, students like Jonathan can continue achieving their dreams!
