Disney Donates Television Animation Equipment to LACC

The Walt Disney Company has donated key equipment assets from its television animation department to Los Angeles City College’s Department of Cinema and Television. The donation includes television animation computers, monitors, creative pen and touch displays, and other multimedia equipment. The donation will make a dramatic positive educational impact for the students and faculty in LACC’s Department of Cinema and Television.

LACC’s Cinema/TV department is recognized for its comprehensive world-class training programs in motion picture production and television broadcasting – developing award-winning artists such as Robert Elswit, Albert Hughes and Kevin Tent.

“We are so grateful to Disney for investing in our students and our programs,” said Joni Varner, department chair. “This equipment will enable our students to train with industry-standard equipment that they would otherwise be unable to access.”

The Walt Disney Company’s latest investment builds on its ongoing commitment to Los Angeles City College students. In 2013, Disney created a LACC scholarship that provided $25,000 through LACC Foundation for tuition assistance, book vouchers, and emergency funds for the 600 veterans who were full time students on LACC’s campus. Scholarships typically ranged from $500 – $2,000 per student. Strong preference was given to students in the Cinema and TV program, Theatre Academy, and those seeking careers in the hospitality sector.

“The Walt Disney Company is a wonderful community partner that understands the value of supporting LACC students in support of a strong workforce in the local entertainment industry and a vibrant local economy,” said Reneé Martinez, LACC president.

The LACC Foundation and the entire LACC community thanks the Walt Disney Company for their generosity and continued investment in the students of LACC!
